In February, we posted our favorite commercial real estate blogs, and six months later, it's time to update the list and share some other blogs we have come to rely on.
The standout newcomer is Citybiz Real Estate. This site is spearheaded by Jay Rickey, and focuses on the Baltimore market. The local news is fast and accurate, and the National news has been mentioned on David Bodamer's Retail Traffic blog, Traffic Court, an excellent blog on retail real estate. Rickey writes, "I'm telling you: because we're local, online and user-friendly, the brokerage communities love using us to get their news out to the local businesses and fellow brokerage communities we reach."
There are several great blogs on GlobeSt.com, but there are two that we just can't live without. Noreen Seebacher's Realty Bytes is a great blog for real estate professionals looking for the latest technology news. The posts are enjoyable and informative, and we're not just saying that because she wrote an article about us! For retail real estate, Ian Ritter's Counter Culture is the place to find the best articles mixed with a sense of humor and wry wit.
The Bigger Pockets networking site has a blog called Real Estate Dispatch that offers analysis of the news and the markets. There are a staff of writers that ensure variety for the blog and a fresh look on many different topics.
Hardly a comprehensive list, these blogs are at the top of our mind at the moment. What are your favorite commercial real estate blogs. Do you have a great blog for your city or state? Let us know!
We've been blogging for a while now, and it's time to see how we measure up! The RealUp Official Blog has been entered into the Bloggers Choice '09 Awards in the Best Corporate Blog and Best Business Blog categories. Please vote for us by clicking on the links below:
You can sign up with Bloggers Choice Awards and nominate and vote on your favorite (and least favorite) blogs. Last years winner for corporate blog was Scott Ragsdale with his blog on building his company, naseba. The RealUp blog doesn't have as much backstabbing and intrigue as Scott Ragsdale's, but we do have a lot of great content!
Winner of the dubious Worst Blog of All Time Award went to Perez Hilton last year, and he's in the lead again this year. (Please don't nominate us for that category). Best charity blog is another category that has a lot of great nominees. Spiritjump.com looks like a great blog. It organizes gifts for cancer patients!

If you are new to the blogosphere, you might not be familiar with a blogroll. A blog, short for weblog, is a type of website with regular entries - similar to an online diary. A person who writes a blog is usually called a blogger, sometimes a bloggist or very rarely a bloggerista. And a blogroll is simply a list of blogs on a blog, usually placed in the sidebar of a blog, that reads as a list of recommendations by the blogger of other blogs. Finally, someone who reads a blog would be you.
We made our own blogroll for this blog, but there are many other blogs with blogrolls out there for anyone to who likes blogrolling.com. We have linked to our favorite blogs including the press, industry associations, real estate partners, and even our biggest competition.
The blogrolling phenomenon is somewhat reciprocal. By linking to a blog, you are increasing your chances that they will link back to you. These links between blogs are the currency of the blog community - the blogosphere. The more links you have pointing to your blog, the more likely you'll get a growing audience and high rankings in search engines. A blogroll helps you get started earning links from other blogs by expressing your affiliations.
The dark side of blogrolling is that it is a door out of your blog - almost like an invitation to flee the site! We here at RealUp feel that having a blogroll to point our readers to other blogs they might enjoy is worth the risk. If you like a blog we recommend, you'll still come back and read ours, right? Right?
The spirit of reading and sharing new blogs is now an official celebration! August 31st is International BlogDay. What are your favorite blogs? We'd love to read some new interesting commercial real estate material. Do you have a blog? Let us know- we might just add you to our blogroll!
P.S. In case you were keeping track, the number of times the word "blog" appears in this post is 42 - which is incidentally answer to life, the universe, and everything. Blogitty-blog!
The RealUp blog now has an RSS feed. This allows all the new content to be syndicated automatically. Clicking on the orange button will make sure that every post will be published to your aggregator so you can read this blog and all your other favorite blogs in one place.
In fact, those interested in commercial real estate blogs can check out our blogroll for other blogs that specialize in real estate. There is a wide variety of good blogs out there on mixed use, commercial loans, retail real estate, and anything else you might be interested in.
RSS feeds came about as a way to publish works that are updated often in a standardized way. The story behind the name is an interesting one. The first version of RSS was developed in 1999 for use on the My.Netscape.Com portal by Ramanathan V. Guha . He dubbed the feed "Really Simple Syndication." A few months later, Dan Libby simplified the feed and renamed it "Rich Site Summary." Then, in 2002, Dave Winer released a major new version of the format and changed the name back to "Really Simple Syndication."
The orange icon was originally used on Mozilla Firefox browers, but In December 2002, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook both adopted the icon and it has become the industry standard for an RSS feed. The cheerful orange icon with white radio waves is now seen everywhere on the web.
We have also added a subscribe feature to the blog. Enter you email address, and you will get an email every time there is a new post. We hope you subscribe to our blog or our feed. Our goal is to keep you updated and informed.
