Site Updates

Thursday, April 29, 2010
After a thorough examination of our customer feedback, we have redesigned part of the website to provide you the easiest, most efficient way of signing up and creating your property listings. Now you can supply even more detailed information that will help you connect to other agents, brokers, buyers and investors.

It is important to agents and brokers as well as buyers to have contact information easily accessible. Now when you join as a new member, pertinent information such as your fax number and realtor designation can be added.

The newly designed listing creation section takes just minutes to complete with more options than before. Detailed property types and subtypes allow for a more specific property search that is essential to helping users look for listings. An automatic vanity URL is created for you when naming your property, which users can save in their favorites.

Thanks to Google Maps, editing your property location is easy. Simply drag the icon over the correct area for the location of your listing and it is automatically updated. Detailed information such as suite/floor/lot and minimum divisible now add more value to your property, and your company logo can be added to further define your listing.

We understand how important it is for our users to have access to the most detailed and correct information possible. We appreciate your patience through all of these updates and welcome any questions or comments you have. Thank you for making RealUp the fastest growing commercial property website.

X Marks the Spot

Thursday, September 03, 2009
Have you noticed the new enhanced appearance of our search results mapping page? Well what are you waiting for? We have worked hard to come up with the perfect map markers and now they have finally been unveiled to the public!

Map markers are tiny icons that are displayed on a map with the purpose of providing a visual reference and pin pointing an exact location. The "X" was used to mark a specific location on a map and as some would say, "X marks the spot" of the buried treasure. Although the use of a cross or X is probably much older, this term was first recorded in 1813. Although we have come a long way since using the X map markers are still used to serve the same basic function.

Today, map markers can be of the most basic variety that does just that – point to an exact location on a map. Some are numbered or color coded and some even display image icons. In an attempt to provide the most resourceful icons for our users, we decided to incorporate all of these features into one perfect map marker.

The new RealUp map marker is a numbered, icon bearing text bubble like shape with a pin-point locator tip. This custom map marker is integrated with Google Maps to visually display search results. Not only can users identify the exact location of each property that shows up in search results but they can identify the property type and the corresponding number of the property just by looking at the interactive map. There is no looking back and forth from map to color key identifier just to determine the property type.

Simply take a look at the crafty easy to identify icon located on the map marker itself and instantly visualize retail, industrial, office, land, multifamily and more. Click on the icon and get a sneak peak including property address, price and link directly to the listing itself.

Visit RealUp.com and conduct your free search today – check out the search results and the new map markers displayed on the interactive map. Let us know what you think!

Maps Apps

Monday, March 30, 2009
RealUp is always looking for new ways to put your commercial real estate listings "on the map." This time, we mean it literally. We've just finished integrating Google Maps API into RealUp. This will add a mapping feature to individual listings and directory profiles.

The Google Maps API gives developers several ways of embedding Google Maps into web pages. It allows for either simple use or extensive customization. And the best thing of all, it is FREE to use.

Putting Google Maps API on your site can even earn you advertising revenue although we chose not to go that route. If you want to profit from the advertising personally, then all you have to do is get Google AdSense for Search. You will begin receiving advertising revenue for any clicks on sponsored results within your API application.

Our commercial real estate listings each have a customized mapping section. Users will be able to see a satellite or map view of the property with a marker pointing to the actual property location. If a user needs more detail, the map can be enlarged for a much larger view of the area along with driving directions.

Mapping is also integrated into our searching, including searches for property listings, demographics, recent sales data and professional directory. Each type of search will display the results on a map with markers for each search result.

Google Maps APIs are always being improved by Google. They always announce updates and new features on the Google Geo Developers blog. You can take a sneak peek at how the maps will work on the listings on our demo page. Happy mapping!

Hyperlocal

Monday, November 17, 2008
Hyperlocal is the future. The idea is to make web content relevant to the location of the user.

When someone from Miami is searching for commercial real estate listings, it makes sense that the default search location should be Miami.

The trend in online services is moving to a more hyperlocal format and it is predicted that hyperlocal websites will boom this year. People are looking for in depth information on their immediate area.

We want to give hyperlocal coverage for a national audience. This way, brokers and owners can find information custom tailored to their local area and still have the ability to search for properties nationwide.

Hyperlocal content is expanding on many different types of online businesses, including blogs, news sites, social networks, dating sites and, of course, property listing sites.

We are using the GeoIP product from MaxMind for the geolocation of the user IP address. This allows us to generate location specific landing pages for visitors and automatically design the user experience for the user's physical geographic location. We want to make visitors feel at home on RealUp.

There are custom pages with unique URLs for major metropolitan areas. For instance, New York City has a unique page at nyc.realup.com and Boston can be accessed at boston.realup.com. With our experience creating and running TerraServer.com, the leader in online imagery, we know the value of geospatial information and location based services.
